New CLOUD-HED report explores the implementation of transversal and resilience-related skills in higher education

How can higher education programmes prepare students not only with disciplinary knowledge, but also with the skills needed to navigate uncertainty, disruption and crisis?

As part of CLOUD-HED Work Package 4, the project has developed the report “Implementation of Transversal and Resilience Skills in Pilot Curricula”. The report examines how transversal and resilience-related skills can be meaningfully embedded into higher education curricula and translated into concrete teaching and learning practices.

Building on previous CLOUD-HED work and the experiences of the project partners, the report brings together examples from four pilot programmes and identifies common approaches for integrating relevant skills into curricula. Particular attention is given to making these competences explicit in learning outcomes, combining dedicated activities with their integration into disciplinary courses, and providing students with repeated opportunities to practise and reflect on their skills.

The analysis also highlights the importance of authentic learning environments, including scenarios, simulations, projects and problem-based activities that expose students to conditions of uncertainty, disruption, digital dependency and limited resources. At the same time, flexibility and accessibility remain essential, particularly when teaching and learning take place under crisis conditions.

The report translates these findings into practical recommendations for higher education institutions and educators seeking to strengthen students’ transversal competences and resilience.

The report is now available in the results section of the CLOUD-HED website.
